This article “Food Deserts” by Judy Valente gives us a look at how community gardens can affect areas that are defined as “food deserts.” It also focuses a bit on Christian involvement in this process as well; one of the local church’s pastor talked about how they need to move beyond caring only about a person’s “soul” and to caring about the whole person. I think this article gives us a view of working community gardens and individual gardens that have been set up and are run by different types of organizations. I think it is helpful in that it provides some ideas on how Christians should be involved in food justice. I agree with Nat Turner when he says that we need to move past just looking into food security to food justice. I think that as Christians that should be a goal of ours and this article gives some insight into that.
