This article is directly related to our recent conversations of what “interests” us, but instead of relating it to school, it takes a different perspective on foods we refuse to eat. How can we be certain that what we don’t like to eat, is so permanent? The author of this article has recorded numerous times where they start out not liking something, for example the coconut water, then a year later, after they have developed a bit or changed their way of thinking, they start to worship it like their friend.
So shouldn’t we reference our school life and overall life based on this theory? This theory that we will never know we 100% dislike something without trying it multiple times in different situations. Why are we, as a society, craving for updates and changes to our technology, but are unfocused when it comes to the education that will change it? Is technology detouring our mental capacities? These are some questions that cross my mind on a daily basis.
Since our discussions of interests, it’s been reoccurring in my mind, looking for an answer. Why am I constantly bored out of my mind? I believe that the constant changes and society’s wants to make everything better than before and faster creates a change in the population that are involved with those changes. Just like the foods we eat, we eat what we know is good, like a carrot, but then once something better comes along, like the trend of dipping sauces with our vegetables, we abandon what was originally good for us for something that is good tasting. So is technology the carrot of the dipping sauce?
Although the author begins to like the foods they previously disliked in their fifties, can that really apply to our education situation now? It seems hard and annoying to have an interest in school decades later, when I’m in school now. So how am I supposed to change this?
