Monosodium Glutamate is a flavor enhancer that is commonly used in the production of fast food. Not only is it counted as a flavor enhancer, but is also known as a drug that when consumed can make you feel like you want to consume ore though you already full.
Fast food places such as McDonalds, Burger King, Dairy Queen, and more all use Monosodium Glutamate in the food they produce and in my opinion should be avoided. Now why is this a problem and a concern?
Monosodium Glutamate is a drug that the body already produces and by adding to what we already produce can cause different problems depending on the person. our bodies produce processed free MSG’s which make the natural kind better, but because MSG added to foods are processed it does not make the two MSG’s the same.
Another concern for MSG’s are allergic reactions and unknowingly consuming the product. Monosodium Glutamate is often times hidden under different names or simply not added to the nutritional facts or labels. some people who consume MSG’s unknowingly have reactions like head ache, fatigue, rashes, and vomiting, but for others it is more severe.
People think because MSG’s have been used for decades and are continuing to be used that they are not harmful, or don’t believe those who are actually effected by it, but tests show from National Library of Medicine that MSG’s have even effected the neurotransmitters of mice, there pancreas, and production of insulin. So if rats and mice are effected my monosodium Glutamate than there is no evidence saying that were are not subjected to problems by it. We produce insulin to break down our food and sugars, and when MSG’s are added to our bodies more insulin is produced making us think we are still hungry.
There are many problems and concerns with MSG’s and with further testing and knowledge about the processed form and the natural, I don’t believe monosodium glutamate should even be used. our basic understanding is not enough to determine whether we should be consuming it or not, but at the same time sometimes we don’t know we are consuming it.
